About Us
Located in leafy surrounds, with modern facilities including a well resourced student library, synthetic oval and basketball court as well as areas for varied play and recreation, Montmorency South provides the perfect setting for our children’s primary education.
Student enrolment in 2023 is 682. We have approximately 58 equivalent full time staff with two principal class. All classes are straight grades and teachers work in teams to plan the programs for the children.
Our French program covers all classes from foundation to 6 and the school also runs the highly successful Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program in years 3-6. Students also have access to iPads and laptops.
Many opportunities are provided for students to develop leadership skills and they can also participate in extra-curricular, parent funded activities during and outside of school hours. These activities include many different sporting events, choir, chess (Monday) Kelly Sports, (Friday), keyboard, guitar and instrumental music programs. The school also provides an Out of School Hours Care program run by Camp Australia. Lunchtime Clubs such as ICT/Coding Club, Kids for Climate Action and Lego Clubs operate at various times of the year.
The overall learning program is supported by the Tribes framework. The purpose of the Tribes process is to assure the healthy development of every child so that each one has the knowledge, skills and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world. As part of Tribes, five agreements are honoured; attentive listening, appreciations/no put downs, mutual respect, the right to think and to do your personal best. We continue to have a strong reputation for the programs offered to our special needs students and are proud of the consistent achievements of our students on the PSD programs.
Community involvement in the school is high and is vital to the running of our school. We have a very proactive School Council and Parents and Friends group, who organise and run a number of fundraising events throughout the school year. Both of these groups play a pivotal role in furthering the strong sense of community that is a trademark of Montmorency South Primary School.
